Getting warmer..

The hugel bed is growing nicely with all the rain. The asparagus plants are poking their heads up asking "Is it Spring yet?"

The almond trees certainly know it's warming up. They're blooming like crazy and look really happy after the permie group pruned them. The bees are humming away up there happily, and the old flowering broccoli is yesterdays news.

And one more sign of spring - a broody hen is fighting the massive urge to scratch around in the lush green grass and is trying to sit on some eggs. :) We've set up a special area just for her. Here's hoping for good news in roughly 3 weeks..

  1. Oooo that asparagus looks good - must go ratting in my own asparagus bed and see what is hiding there! Will have to rebury it though with the frosts we have been having lately, but at least I have plenty of straw.

  2. Wow! I've been a long time reader of the Old Miners Cottage but hadn't checked it for a long time when it all went quiet over there. I thought you two might have just settled into the cottage and been living the quiet life in a beautifully newly renovated place. Wow yet again. You two are great workers and have lots of enthusiasm and energy. So nice to see you turning your attention to another place that needs love and care. I'll follow you here now with great interest. Well done!!

    1. Hi Fran, thanks for the words of encouragement! Boy howdy it would have been nice to just settle into the renovated cottage but there just wasn't enough land. How we've sometimes wished we could have brought the old cottage with us! Har!
